Free, All-Tahiti Web-TV Launched in Paris

The Web site was then launched to a tourism audience at the opening of the Top Resa trade show in the French capital. The show was expected to attract some 20,000 travel professionals. The tahiti.tv site stems from a desire by the Papeete-based Creative.TV to present the world of Tahiti and Her Islands "well beyond folklore and myth".

Besides promoting the destination's Polynesian culture, this Web-TV also aims to be a practical too for potential visitors as well as the French-speaking travel industry. Altogether there are more than 200 documentary, feature, entertainment, close-up and magazine video clips that can be viewed free of charge. Although everything is in French at the moment, Creative.tv plans to add other languages and media presentations next year.

For potential visitors to Tahiti, the Web site presents practical information about the destination along with the GIE Tahiti Tourisme's office addresses throughout the world. Most of the other sponsors are from the tourism industry. They include Air Tahiti, Air Tahiti Nui, the French Polynesia Budget and Finance Ministry, e-Tahiti Travel, Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti and South Pacific Management Hotels, Resorts and Spas.

The tahiti.tv Web site is holding an online game competition through Nov. 2. The winner will receive a 10-day trip for two to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora, roundtrip tickets on Air Tahiti Nui included.
